Why doesn't Outlook remember the passwords for my email accounts

In setting up my email accounts I have told Outlook to remember my passwords
so that I do not have to provide them. Outlook insists, though on a
seemingly random yet incessant basis, on prompting me to enter my POP3
accounts' passwords. I have clicked Cancel on these prompts, as well as
entered the password and clicked "remember my password" - yet it persists.
Can anyone help?

I am also having the same problem where I keep being asked to enter my pop3
password, and I too have tried the abve fix. but it has not solved the
problem.

Hi John,
The article describes 3 steps to fix the problem,
1) back up the registry
2) remove the user account information in the registry
3) reenter your password
Did you go through all three?
Did you choose the right procedure for your system?

Yes I have carried out all the steps in the KB article, but it has not solved
the problem sadly.

After searching on the Internet for this problem, I came accross one forum,
where someone had found a work around to the problem. In that they had
created a new profile and then followed the advice in this KB Article: -
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151/en-us for copying their data to the
new profile.

Since carrying out the above, I now find the problem no longer occurs

There are dozens of threads about this problem on this site and many others.
OVER AND OVER for years this has been a problem. One after another, same
problem, and with no definative solutions. I have had the problem with
Office Outlook 2003 on XP and now Office 2007 on Vista. My Question /
Comment is: Why does no one, including Microsoft, NOT know how to fix these
"remember password Problems". Why does this go on for years without a fix
from Microsoft that works ???

I'm going to jump in here and tell my solution after trying everything that
has been mentioned above. Turns out my hard drive was going bad. As soon as i
had a new hard drive installed all of my problems went away. It may not be
your problem, but it is something to look into. And, you won't have to suffer
the insults from some MVPs to "learn how to ask a question." Good luck.
