why does Outlook work on AOL but not SBC DSL?

Outlook sends email fine when I am logged onto the net
using AOL dial-up (even using smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com as
my outgoing server) but not when I am on SBC's DSL. I
think it's an SBC problem - they claim it's Outlook. Can
anyone please help? Is it an Outlook problem (I've jumped
through hoops resetting and checking my settings) or
SBC's?

AOL does not permit outbound SMTP connections, instead redirecting them to a
local AOL server. Therefore, you've never actually used SBC Yahoo!'s SMTP
server.

The SBC SMTP server requires authentication. If you had authentication
turned on, your attempt to send while using the AOL proxy would have failed.

Thus, I suspect you don't have authentication turned on.

SBC Yahoo! works very well for me every day.
