Why does Outlook disappear from task bar?

When minimized, any session of Outlook used to stay in my task bar. Now, any
time I minimize any Outlook session, it disappears from the task bar and
appears to terminate. Any suggestions?

What version of Outlook? If Outlook 2003 are you sure you haven't configured
it to hide when minimized? Do you still see the Outlook icon in the
Notification Area (you may need to expand it).

are you sure it terminated? when you minimize it, does the outlook icon
appear in the tray?
outlook 2003 has a "hide when minimized" option; you won't see it in the
task bar

Do you have Windows XP? If so, do you have it set to hide inactive icons in
the system tray? Is there an arrow to the left of the icons? If so, click it
and see if the Outlook icon shows up.

To seth, Roady, Diane and Vince,

Thanks for your quick replies. Here is the scoop. Im running MS XP Pro, SP
2. I'm running Office Pro/Outlook 2003 SP2. The Outlook Icon is visible in
my Quick Launch area—no problem there. I run dual monitors always start two
session of Outlook, one for mail on my primary monitor and one for calendar
on my second monitor. I generally work with 8 or 10 other program sessions
open and I’ve always able to find the Outlook mail and calendar sessions in
the Task Bar (not the Quick Launch or System Tray areas. However, two days
ago when I minimized Outlook, instead of minimizing to the Task Bar it
appears to terminate. It still runs properly and starts properly from the
Quick Launch area, but it will not stay stuck to my task bar. All other
programs stay there. Any insight?

Check tasks manager for outlook.exe running - if so, look in the
notification area (tray) for the icon.

Outlook is not listed as a running application, but is listed as a running
process.

2003 SP 2. I'm not familiar with the term "notification area". Do you mean
the "quick launch area? The icon is visible in the quick launch area. It
just won't stay on my task bar, which is where I need it.

Vince,

Yes XP Pro SP 2 and Outlook 2003 SP2. I'm having trouble getting my problem
across to all those who are kindly trying to help. Outlook is not now and
never has been in my sytem tray, not hidden and not showing. There is an
Outlook icon in my quick launch area. Always has been. Still is. That's
not the issue. I'm talkng about the Task Bar. Since I've had this setup any
program session (including the two of Outlook I usually keep running) reside
on my Task Bar. All my other programs still do, whether minimized, maximized
or sized. In the last two days, however, Outlook will only stay in the Task
Bar when maximized or sized. If I try to minimize it to reveal another
program it does not stay on the Task Bar. It appears to completely close.
If I look in Task Manager it says the process is running but not the program.
I need to know how to get Outlook to stay on the Task Bar when minimized.
Thanks.

It's the area to the right formerly known as the "tray" - the time is there
by default, along with oodles of other icons, like the new mail envelope.
There should be an outlook icon identical to the one used on the start
menu - right click on it and see if hide when minimized is checked.

Why is it that when the light comes on one looks so stupid in the mirror.
You were absolutely right. That fixed it. Thank you. Thank you. Thank
you.
