Why does my PC launch a Windows Update browser on startup?

Have you checked to see if there are updates to be
installed, it may be asking if you would like to install
the updates that you have downloaded at some point

Or perhaps if you don't want to update your windows then
just turn it off by going to the properties of my computer
on the deskop, and into Automatic Updates and untcik the
top box

Thanks for the reply. This is different than when you get
the "New updates are ready to be installed" dialog (which
I am OK with). Instead, an actual Internet Explorer
window is launched that goes to the Windows Update page.

It's a minor annoyance to be sure, but an annoyance
nonetheless. And I don't like that I don't know why it's
happening.

Did you check the Automatic Updates settings as Damien suggested? There
is a checkbox in there that will automatically start the updates, not
merely nag you about them.
