Why do windows drag faster than the mouse cursor?

Has anyone noticed in XP that the mouse cursor lags behind a window
when you drag it? Or when you select multiple icons the selection
square responds faster than the mouse cursor icon? Does anyone know if
this can be fixed, it's really annoying.

Windows 2000 doesn't do this. Which I guess is why 2K always feels
better to me when controlling the mouse.

In the Control Panel/Mouse/Pointer Options/Display pointer trails, is this
checked, also check pointer speed.

I suppose it could be my video card drivers/company. I've had issues
with Nvidia drivers and the mouse on XP in the past. For example
certain releases of the Nvidia drivers would make the mouse cursor
less-than-smooth or slightly choppy no matter what refresh rate you had
the mouse at, then older releases wouldn't effect it. Finally I found
changing the display timing would help fix it, but now I have an LCD so
it isn't a problem anymore.

I guess my next course of action should be to try a different video
card and drivers and see if the samething is present.

Check:
Control Panel
Mouse Properties
Motion Tab
See that Acceleration (next to Speed) is not set to High.
