Why do some pages cause Invalid Page Fault erorr messages?

Certain websites cause 'Invalid Page Faults' and cause my PC to crash or
display blue-screen-of-death. (Windows 98 SE O/S)
How can I fix this?
The only reason I can think of is that AVG antivirus detected a Trojan which
was fixed (put into "Virus Vault") and this may have taken essential system
files with it or corrupted some other shared files.
I have re-installed IE and Windows.
I have tried reregistering kernel.dll & dshtml.dll
I have updated windows & graphics drivers. All to no avail

These are example error messages:
1) EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at
0167:bffc05f7.
2) EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module MSHTML.DLL at
0167:636b2633.
3) EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module MSHTML.DLL at
0167:63619f9a.

Some example DrWatson logs:
1) Microsoft (R) HTML Viewer attempted to use a null data pointer
variable.Module Name: MSHTML.DLL
Application Name: Explorer.exe Description: Windows Explorer
2) The application overflowed its stack. This is typically caused by
unrestricted recursion or an exception inside an exception handler.Module
Name: KERNEL32.DLL
Application Name: Explorer.exe Description: Windows Explorer
3) DIMAX.DLL attempted to use a null data pointer variable.
Module Name: DIMAX.DLL
Application Name: Explorer.exe Description: Windows Explorer

I would like to fix rather than reformat.
Please, any help gratefully recieved.

B. You may need new video drivers. Check the site for your video board
manufacturer. Meanwhile you can do the following:
1. Use the default mouse pointers.
2. Turn down your color depth. (Right click the desktop and choose
Properties | Appearance | Settings) Some people find that increasing color
depth helps.
3. Turn down your graphics hardware acceleration. (For Win 98, Start |
Settings | Control Panel | System | Performance | Graphics button) You will
see little, if any, performance degradation.
4. Turn off your desktop wallpaper.

If these make the problem go away you need new video drivers.

If you have an ATI video board, try adding these lines to System.ini
