WHY DATE FORMAT??

G

Guest

My cell is formatted for ...GENERAL!

I type in 9-6 to depict a football score.

The outcome is 6-Sept...instead of 9-6.

The format JUMPS to CUSTOM ...(d-mmm)!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why does this occur?

Thanks,

Excel likes to help. If it sees you enter something that looks like a date, it
figures you want to use a date.

But sometimes this helping is irritating.

You can either pre-format the cell as text or start your entry with an
apostrophe like: '9-6
