Why can't I make the "save as" dialog window smaller-- it used to.

I used to have a smaller window that would pop up when I went to "Save As" in
Microsoft Word. Recently, it has come up very large and fills the monitor
screen with no option to minimize it. The top right only has a ? (question
mark) and an "X" (to close) as options. How did this happen and how can I
change it?

Double-click the title bar (the bar that has "Open" on the left and the ""?"
and "X" on the right). Just like any other window in all Windows programs,
double-clicking the title bar switches between the maximized and restored
sizes.
