Why can't I get a DVD+R disc to work?

I am trying to put pictures on a DVD disc. I purchased DVD+R. My computer
says the brand new disc has 0 bytes on it, and 0 available. I have tried
several of these discs. Does this type of disc not work for windows XP? Do I
need the DVD-R??

PLEASE ADVISE!

Windows XP cannot write to DVD discs without additional packet-writing
programs. To write a blank compact disc, Windows uses a technology called
packet writing. When you burn the disc, it closes the disc, making it
universally compatible with other disc drives. But Windows XP cannot write
to DVD discs because DVD discs use a file system called UDF, which Windows
XP does not support. You can, however, buy an additional program to write
your discs from Windows Explorer. If you use Ahead Nero 6 Ultra Edition, you
can download InCD 5 to write your discs. If you use Roxio Easy Media Creator
7.5, that suite includes Drag-to-Disc. I hope that these suggestions will
help you solve your problem.

Power DVD is to play a DVD on your computer.
If you want to record on a DVD disc you have to use software to do this,
like Roxio, Nero as well as others and use a DVD disc compatible with the
drive you have (-R +R and most drive now can use -R or +R).
