Why can't I copy and paste in Word 2007 between documents?

Word 2007 frequently does not allow me to copy and paste text between
documents. I can select the copy function off the one document but when I
paste to the second document nothing happens. I cannot find a setting that
controls this feature.

I just tried what you wrote below and it worked fine for me. I just copied
text from one Word 2007 document, opened the second document, and selected
paste. It worked like a charm!
