Why can I still ping deleted host (A record)??

When you create a host record and then later delete it, select "update
server records" -or- restart the service, shouldn't that cease the ability
to resolve to the previous address? This is the first (and currently only)
server in the Domain. Also, DNS is not replicated in Active Directory (so I
know it's not that). On a side note, how does the server know how to resolve
that same host even the DNS service is stopped?

I'm an idiot!

I forgot that when you ping FROM the dc you are dealing with the "clients"
cache as well. DUH!

Aptrsn-

Have you checked the DNS cache? Clear it by using ipconfig /flushdns - do
this on the machine where you are performing DNS lookups.
