Why are Outlook rules limited to 32 KB?

The rules I have made my email easier to manage. I don't expect the size
limit to be changed, unless you know a when to do that. And I know I am
supposed to make my email rules more "efficient" to allow for more rules. I
just was wondering why the rule size limit is 32 KB

It was set that way up until 2007 because that's the size of an RPC packet.

It is still the default in 2007, but is configurable, at least for Exchange
connections.

The default in Exchange 2007 is 64KB and is backwards compatible with
supported versions of Outlook (it's not an Outlook limitation). It can be
configured to be up to 256KB per mailbox.

I thought Outlook 2k2 and 2k3 had the same 32KB limitation even when it
didn't connect to the Exchange server?

I knew 2k7 was configurable, but I thought default was still 32KB. Nice to
know it's not.
