why are my favorites blocked?

Hi, first post, so Im sorry if this has already been covered.

My favorites folder in IE has gone insane, I lost my favorites that I
had saved and it will not let me add anything to it. I click on "Add to
Favorites..." and nothing happens, no error message, nothing.

I can find my favorites folder, and can save stuff into it but I cannot
access them in IE.

If it helps I'm using windows XP, IE 6.0 service pack 2 and its on a
corperate network.

(I tried IT support desk here but unless your PC isn't working at all
they dont bother to fix it)

Any help would be really appreciated
