the thief.
Cars are stolen to either commit a crime, to sell parts for money, or
for joyriding.
Additionally, once the s/w is developed, that's it, no more money
needs to be invested in it. (Not completely true as there are updates
and such, but....). It then costs very little to make each CD/DVD.
Now compare that to an automobile......the engineers design a
vehicle, prototypes are made, details worked out, and it goes into
production. Guess what, it costs thousand's and thousand's of dollars
to make each and every car after that as well.
You're partially correct. The *SECOND* pill off the drug company's line
costs ten cents. The *SECOND* CD off the Microsoft duplicator costs ten
cents. But both the FIRST pill and the FIRST compact disk cost $5 billion.
And yes, it is a reasonable theory that if s/w was less expensive
there would be less piracy.
Nope. Thieves are thieves. They do what thieves do. We see every day people
getting arrested for stealing a lipstick or a bottle of beer. Very, very few
people steal because they can't afford the object of their desires.
