All standard, essential system files.

WOOOOPS. Vital ommission! Dlls softcat uses include: msjet*.dll etc. The
Microsoft Jet Database Engine is needed for many programs. It's installed
with windows by default and there are regular sp updates. You might consider
doing a download and install of this component from microsoft.

LOL!!!! I thought it was just me! You've described it perfectly!

Oh NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How COULD you?!? (snif, *sob*) :-((

Freeware was meant to be used! Oh, my body's health may fail me, friends
may forget me, but I always have my freeware to use! My default browser is
Mozilla Firebird! My default e-mail app is Eudora! My newsreader is 40tude!
I write everything in KeyNote, print to PDF with CutePDF, and virus-scan
with AVG! My registry is gunktified from installs and uninstalls! My
website hardly works, but it's loaded with links and over twenty megabytes
of freeware I feared might disappear from the Net!

!Viva la freeware! I salute thee with bad poetry [but it's the heart that
counts]...

Ah, sweet freeware--how do I love thee!
Gentle, 133t programmer, thou give and give;
Thou think not of thyself, care not of a profit--
Save the sweet profit paid in karma,
Sharing thine talent and time with a world undeserving!
The mystic veins of the Net groan with vile demos,
The Web weeps as she bleeds adware and nag-screens.
But thou carest only that strangers might be happy!
Mothers, let thine children aspire such greatness!
E'en before doctors and firemen, thou freeware authors--
Truly thine art a majestic breed!

I think we all need "freeware anonymous" or some such group!. Where
else would
someone beg for help to stop downloading and most of the replies
contain suggestions
for MORE FREE programs !! <g>
Having just transferred everything from one computer to another I've
realized just
how reliant I have become on some of my freeware programs,At least I
know I
am not alone in having a hardrive bristling with all sorts of
extras. In fact I would
have to say that I spend more time downloading
installing/uninstalling and fixing up
crashes etc than I do actually USING the things.Perhaps that's the
definition
of a freeware squirrel :.).

Amen. Furthermore, I refuse to estimate the percentage of untested
downloads I have. 'T would be too embarrassing.

Softcat.exe imported modules list report (courtesy of Faber Toys):

advapi32.dll comctl32.dll comdlg32.dll gdi32.dll kernel32.dll
mpr.dll ole32.dll oleaut32.dll shell32.dll user32.dll version.dll
winmm.dll winspool.drv

All standard, essential system files.

Thanks. I'll give it another shot.

(Caught myself starting to download free programs for a Mac, which I don't have.)

The information is not transported because the cd file system (ISO,
Joliet, UDF) does not support it.

Thanks. That's what I thought too. So as long as you keep the file on an
NTFS drive the information will stay, but if it's archived to CD the
information is lost. IMO, that makes these properties virtually useless.
Too bad, as it sounded good to begin with.
