"Which user account do you want to use to run this program?"

My Windows XP computer is in individual use. Settings of this computer are
such that when starting it does not ask for no Username, nor Password.
Surprisingly, when I tried to run the exe-file to install a program, the
computer issues a request: "Which user account do you want to use to run
this program?" Username and Password are forgotten. How can I get out of
this situation?

Thank you
Lev

Is that prompt really came from the system and not a third party software?
I don't recall any Windows version has this kind of feature.

I can only think that it was setup using Auto Login and the default program
execution from the shell has been changed to "Run As..."

The installer might install a program for All Users or just the one
under which you are currently logged under. I supposed if there are
multiple Windows account (other than Administrator) that it might ask if
the program gets installed for particular users or those within a
specific user group. I've only run into the All Users or just-you
scenario.

You didn't mention WHICH desktop you use in Windows XP. I don't bother
with the Fischer-Price (bobbleheads) pretty GUI and instead use the
classic GUI. That lets me customize the Windows taskbar to enable the
"Display Log Off" option in the Start menu. In the Start menu, I'll see
"Log Off <username>".

If you run "net user" in a command prompt (DOS shell) or use the Users
applet in Control Panel, you can see the list of Windows accounts.
Alas, it doesn't show which one is the current logged on one.

In a command prompt (DOS shell), you can run the following command to
show the value of environment variable (who name is between the
percent-sign delimiters):

echo %userprofile%
echo %username%

Either one will show/include your username. Those show the user profile
(path) or username for the currently logged on Windows account.
