Think maybe you are paying your fair share of those stupid EU fines
Microsoft had to pay.

You could be right, though I still prefer "being shamelessly ripped off".

I didn't support the EU case against Microsoft, I thought it to be wholly
without merit, but this kind of price-scalping actually makes accusations of
monopoly behaviour much easier for opponents to Microsoft to prove.

The EU scalping was over the inclusion of additional software not price
scalping. The Media Player had to be removed and there was great contention
over the Internet Explorer also. I know the EU (as do some states) need to
raise money because they have reached the limit on 'taxation' and this seems
to be the new way to raise funds to feed the bloated bureaucracies. In the
states it is lawsuits over tobacco, fatty fast foods, etc. which I'm sure
yours will get around to.

I know what the EU case was about. I'm suggesting the new price gouging with
Vista will not improve Microsoft's position.

Indeed. It seems govt. everywhere wants to encourage business to be
successful but punish it if it gets too successful.

Indeed, governments everywhere encourage business to make profits -
and then take their part from those profits (taxation, fees...).
