Which DL mngrs. can do this?

Just finished uninstalling (for good) 'FlashGet'... way to many popunders
being generated, and not that long ago my favorite manager
'NetTransport'....Lost several hundred files into thin air (second time
this has happened to me with NetTrans.).
What I need is a program like the two above that allows me to add a comment
file with a description of the program being downloaded.
Tried FDM, Leechget, Download Express, Fresh Download...a while back, and a
couple others whose names escape me at the moment, but none of these allow
for the inclusion of comments like Flash and Net.
Any recomendations or suggestions on a workable program or solution would
be greatly appreciated.

I use Opera browser downloader , has resume & is fast .
Not sure if it can add comments , no problem having more than 1
browser , just a matter of having your main browser set as default .

Both FDM and Fresh Download allow one to add a comment.
For FDM, after the download, right-click on the filename, select "Download
properties", add your comment in the field next to "Comment:". When you
select the View menu, then "List of downloads", make sure "Comment" has a
check mark next to it .
For Fresh Download, it's very similar. After download, right-click on
filename, select "Properties", fill in the "Comment:" field. When you
select the View menu, then "FreshDownload Options", then "Display", under
"Columns" make sure the "Description" box is checked.

Thank You Allan for responding to my question and enlightening me on the
capabilities of both these programs. Should have, and could have delved
deeper into the options, but my frustration last night, or for that matter
the last few days got the better of me.
FDM it is!
Thanks again

Many download managers talk about accelerating the download by splitting
the file into multiple downloads. I was just wondering, does anyone
have experience with any dl manager that is able to split the file and
then get it from multiple sources at the same time? I know getright
does it (but its not freeware). If you click on a second source for the
same file, instead of launching another file download, it can split the
already in progress download, and autoadd the second source. I think it
even pings the list of sources before deciding which download threads to
attach to a particular source.

i use getright (the shareware version)
-> I KNOW IT IS NOT FREEWARE !!! SO NO COMMENTS PLZ
however it is the most reliable and the only annoyance is a little
window that occasionally pops up and you have to wiat 5 seconds.
i use Mozilla Firefox and the Flashgot plugin and all is well

GetRight is much more reliable than any other DM i have ever used

If you have a high speed (ADSL etc) connection, is a DL manager of any
value?

I'm on ADSL, and a downloadmanager (Stardownloader in my case) still speeds
things up, even if the speed without it is already more than satisfying.
For huge downloads it's definetly faster, for smaller downloads there's
hardly a difference. But the main reason I use Stardownloader is that you
can set it up to scan downloaded files with your anti-virus (in my case
AVG), so it checkes the files for viruses after downloading.

A good way to avoid people pointing out what an idiot you are for
recommending shareware in a freeware newsgroup is to... not do it.

That's a real benefit. Thanks.

If you add up the name 'George Bush' in Hebrew letters it comes out:

G = 3 (gimel)
e = 5 (heh)
o = 70 (ayin)
r = 200 (resh)
g = 3 (gimel)
e = 5 (heh)
B = 2 (beth)
u = 70 (ayin)
s = 300 (shin)
h = 8 (cheth)
total = 666 (Antichrist)

I don't get any popunders etc., with Flashget. Were you using an older
version? Perhaps my firewall, Outpost, is stopping the popunders. In
any case, I never see them.

In reference to a subsequent comment on downloaders, Flashget can also
be configured to launch your antivirus app after a download.

If I remember correctly, there is a file somewhere in the directory of
Flash Get that has a list of all the 'ads' that have been served.
I use Avast, and it's very possible that I granted Flash Get permission to
serve these.
As a general rule I usually use the latest version of favorite or useful
programs, so it was most likely the newest version.
Have since reinstalled the last freeware version of Net Transport and will
periodically transfer downloads to a safe folder.
Tried FDM and Star Downloader but couldn't achieve a satisfactory comfort
level with either.

It is on my cable connection. An added benefit -- of the one I use,
at least -- is that it automagically runs my antivi against downloaded
files.

I installed Fresh Download and like it mucho. Gives me all kinds of info
like where I DL from etc. Can split a huge DL and glue it back together.
