Where's that little yellow balloon showing the phone number of the incoming caller?

My mother's Windows XP computer has a fax machine attached to it. Whenever
an incoming call is received, a small yellow pop-up balloon indicates the
telephone number of the caller right above the system tray area. There is
an option to answer the call as a fax call. Now I am in front of my
computer. I have installed the Windows XP fax service. I enabled the
manual method for answering incoming calls in the fax console. What I can't
get it to do is to pop-up that little yellow balloon with the caller number
in it. Gurus, any thoughts?

A number of standard update and repair procedures disabled the Fax Monitor
in the initial release of Windows XP. These problems were fixed in Service
Pack 1. Make sure you apply SP1 if you notice this problem

I am assuming that the person calling does not caller-id blocked (which is
the way to preserve privacy). If yes, can you try checking if you can
receive faxes in the automatic mode to ensure fax is setup and configured
properly?

Also, you need to turn on notifications. Go to "Printers And Faxes". Right
click on the Fax icon there. Go to Tracking tab - there are three
check-boxes for notifications. Please ensure the relevant ones are on.
