Where is the fire wire port?

Good Morning,

When I brought home my Sony Vaio PCG-K13 laptop, I was disappointed to
find that it doesn'thave a fire wire port. Last night, I happened across
a description of the machine on Amazon.com. It says it does have a fire
wire port. Fire Wire is iee 1394 or something like that, isn't it? The
machine's OS indicates it does have a 1394 port.

I'm more familiar with Macintoshes. Do their firewire ports look
different? On the Macintosh, the are about the size and shape of a USB
port, but a little wider, with a kind of triangle shape on each end.

There's an RJ-45 jack. That's what I call an Ethernet jack. Does this do
double duty as a Fire Wire jack? I don't think my macintosh Fire Wire
cables would plug into it. Do I need an adaptor or something? It looks
like the machine has three USB 2.0 ports. Two on the side and one on the
back. Is there an adaptor that will turn a USB port into a Fire Wire port?

There's a tiny little jack right next to the two USB ports. It looks
like the mini-USB jack on a digital camera. Is this an alternate type of
FIre Wire port?

Boy, am I confused.

Thanks in advance,

Tim Miller

It has a FireWire port, only labeled iLink S400 (4pin)
It's under the left side airvent, between mic and USB ports

There are two different types of fireware ports. The one you described (with
the triangular ends) is for devices with no external power. What your laptop
probably has is the mini jack that is for devices that have their own power.
It should be the one you mentioned, near the USB ports.

Hey, Beavis! I'm one of your biggest fans. Can I get your autograph,
dude? Just write it on your screen with a magic marker.

Thanks to Thomas an JAX on this thread. It's obvious now, but it wasn't
obvious at the time, at least to me.

Cheers,
