Where is my contact list

R

RFJ

After a minor systems crash, something seems to have gone wrong in Outlook
XP.

I can see my contact list in Contacts. However, when I send an email, there
is no contact list and no alternatives on which to select.

If I then add a new contact, it is saved and appears on its own in the email
contact list. Further investigation shows that is is stored in a file called
outlook1.pst whereas all my other contacts are stored in outlook.pst

I've prodded around and everything else seems fine.

Does any know how I can get to access my original contact list when sending
an email.

TIA

So how many PST files and Contacts Folders do you have in your current
Outlook Profile? Use Folder List to examine all the files and folders in
your profile.
The Outlook Address Book is obviously configured to display a different
Contacts Folder than the one you are viewing. Only you can unravel the mess
and configure it to display the correct one(s). Go to Tools > E-mail
accounts > View or change existing directories or address books > Outlook
Address Book > Change. to do so.

Thanks Russ,

I was following your suggestion and on one of the Outlook screens it gave me
a clue as to what was wrong.

All I had to do was go into the properties of the contacts folder and tick
the box to show the folder as an email address book :)

Right, but be careful that you don't have more than one PST file or more
than one Contacts Folder in your current profile. Things can get awfully
confusing if you do but aren't aware that you do.
