I'm glad that the search text box is right in the bottom of the start menu,
BUT more than the search tool, i (in fact most of the users) use
Windows key + P + A to goto accessories menu,
Windows key + U + U to shutdown my computer,
Windows key + U + R to Restart my computer,
Windows key + U + L to Log Off,
Windows key + <> + <> + <> keys to navigate in the start menu without mouse

Now in Vista How do i get rid of this search text box in my start menu
??????? it sucks all my keystrokes ! please any one help me out to fix
this problem .

Most users? Where do you get that quantification?

Try the classic start menu. Right click Start | Properties | Classic Start
menu. Don't know about the key strokes, if going to the Classic menu will
do it.

Hi,

Try Vista Start Menu program a convenient alternative to the Start
menu.

and get -

win + a +1 to goto accessoriesmenu,
win F8 to shutdown computer,
win F6 to Restart computer,
win F4 to Log Off,

and power ability to run any program with two keystrokes.

In the past, you had to press the arrow keys and other keys several
times until you reached the item you needed. Now you can start any
program with just a couple of keystrokes. The program splits the list
into sections. You select the necessary section with the first key
(for example, by pressing E) and then select the item in the section
by pressing keys from 1 to 9.
Note that the positions of the programs do not change and thus you can
memorize these key combinations and use them every day.
