where did these .dll files appear from?!

These dll files have appeared in the root level of my D: drive. I'm not
sure where they've come from. I've only just noticed them. I've
recently installed America's Army (and gamespy and xfire) and Fresh
Download. I've also recently uninstalled ZoneAlarem. Are the dlls
related to any of those? And can I safely move or delete them?

atl71.dll
mfc71.dll
mfc71u.dll
msvcp71.dll
msvcr71.dll

They don't take up space - my issue is more the fact that they've just
appeared there and I'm trying to keep my drives tidy and organized!

Yes, and?

Google comes up with issues where those files are missing. My issue is
where those files have come from.

thanks for the links wesley :)

It looks like they mainly have .net and visual basic in common. Perhaps
those programs I installed use those components. However, I think it's
unusual that the DLLs appeared in the root of D:, when I always install
my software to C:

Maybe the safest thing to do for now is move the files into a folder,
and see if any programs complain about the 'missing' files.

Any other suggestions?

I think you'll find that Steve is cryptically saying that putting the
..dll names one at a time into a Google search will tell you what they
are, where they have originated from and therefore what to do about
them..................????

Did for me, anyway...................

I have these three...
C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\mfc71.dll
I have no idea what program installed these two, they are not on the XP
CD...
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msvcp71.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msvcr71.dll

programchecker.com lists which programs use these DLLs. THe ones that
have all these DLLs in common are Pluck, Nero, Beinsync and musicmatch.

Out of those, I only have Nero Burning ROM on my PC, but I installed
and used that weeks ago, though the DLLs have only just appeared in D:

The mystery continues...

i've downloaded programchecker. It says these dll files are from
musicmatch and paintshoppro - but i don't even have these programs!

I've moved them into a folder, and so far no software has complained
about missing them. Adaware SE, and my AV (Avira Antivir) do not report
anything... so fingers crossed :S

I did not download anything.

I just added http://www.programchecker.com/ to my favorites in Internet
Explorer. So I could use this feature...
