where can i find a download for Exel Spreadsheets file XLS

ive been sent a file that requires Exel Spreadsheets file XLS to open it and
i can't find the right download anywhere!

I'm afraid it's licensed software that you need to purchase.

Do you need excel to update the file?????

The free viewer (no changes allowed) from Microsoft:

Maybe a free spreadsheet program would work:

or...

Google Docs offers a free online spreadsheet program (and a word processing
