Where are my deleted messages?

When I delete a message from my inbox (I am using Outlook 2007), then the
message is removed from my inbox (it is not hidden) but I don't know where
the message is moved to. I cannot find it in my deleted items folder, nor in
any other folder.

Is the message permanently deleted? Can I specify in Outlook 2007 to which
folder deleted messages are moved to?

For what mail account type? In general they are moved to the Deleted Items
folder unless deleted with holding the SHIFT button.

IMAP. Also, when I check the same mailbox using a different email program,
then I cannot find the deleted messages anymore. They seem to be deleted
permanently.

Is it possible that, without knowing myself, I have changed some settings in
Outlook 2007 that cause the problem?

For an IMAP account in Outlook 2007 deleted items can be automatically
purged when changing folders. You can set your Purge Options in the Edit
menu.

Thanks. One of the two problems is solved. I changed the setting you
suggested and now the messages are not permanently deleted. When I delete the
message, it remains in the inbox but it is marked for deletion and it has
strikethrough font.

But how do I get the marked messages in the Deleted Items Folder. In my case
it does not happen automatically. When I purge the inbox a box appears asking
"Are you sure you want to permanently delete all the messages marked for
deletion in this folder". After confirmation, the marked messages are removed
from the inbox, but I cannot find them in any other folder. I would like to
store my deleted messages.

Then you should move them to the storage folder of your choice.

Can the messages be moved automatically to a storage folder. Moving messages
manually to a storage folder is a pain in the ass.

I previously used Seamonkey from Mozilla and in that program when I deleted
a message, the message was automatically purged from the inbox and
simultaneously copied to a Trash folder for storage. I am looking for similar
functionality in Outlook. I already checked for making a rule, but couldn't
find a rule for deleted messages.
