Next week apparently... Tuesday people are saying... but don't hold your
breath. No official word from Microsoft yet, so best to say "soon".

There isn't exact sign up for access to download site, just an opportunity
to be notified when Vista will be available on Microsoft.com's public site
for download.

My understanding is, Vista will be made available Attendees, Technical
Testers and TAP customers sometime during the week of May 22nd. General
Public will receive sometime on or after the 27th of May.

Do you have a guestimate as to how large the download may be? I ask
because I am overseas until July 1 and may want to use the hotel
broadband to download the image to my laptop so as not to miss out,
but I don't want to overload the connection.

32-bit : between 3.1GB and 3.6GB roughly.
64-bit: between 4.6GB and 4.9GB roughly.

Anything more than about 4.6GB image will need a dual layer DVD to burn to -
and you'll need a dual layer burning device otherwise you'll just have to
stick to using Daemon Tools or virtual image mounting software.
And just a bit of advice - don't use hotel internet - you'll end up spending
more than the room cost itself! :-o

That's only the "good" hotels. Most mid-range and low cost motels have free
wireless.

Thanks for the "guesstimate" on the size. Fortunately, my laptop's got
a dual layer DVD burner, if it turns out to be necessary, and dual
layer DVDs are easily found in Tokyo.

Yep. Free access at this hotel but I suspect they may throttle the
connection if they feel you are overusing it. We'll see.
