when saving as a picture - transparent background goes black?

When I save an image from a slide as a picture in jpg format - the background
turns black whenever it is imported or saved. Does anyone know how to stop
this happening as its driving me nuts!

Save the image to a format that supports transparency. Usually I use PNG
format for transparencies, but GIF also works.
