When I type the computer does not!!!!

When i am trying to type or move with the arrows, it is doing everything but.
Menus open, windows close (if multiple word documents are open), it changes
the font, or size.

Anything but what I am wanting it to

Only in WORD. I am using XP so I think that is 2002.

Does it still misbehave if you start Word in its safe mode (hold the CTRL
key whilst starting Word)? If not see
