When I open a .doc attachment in Outlook it's always in thumbnail

Whenever I open a .doc that was sent as an attachment it always opens in
thumbnail format. Then if I change it to normal view, any pictures that were
in the document disappear.

Care to elaborate a bit more? Outlook is not responsible for how doc-files
open.
