what was that promise that you could use a flash drive for speeding up
vista?

To use it as an additional ram memory.. was it only for laptops?

I have a new 2 gig usb flashdrive..

Can it help vista speed up a little somehow? Vista is so good I am willing
to spend thousands of dollars

to get a new 4 core computer that will do exactly the same things I did with
XP....

for all you vista fanboys, guess what? my bran new HIGH-SPEED (it says so on
the box) 2 GB USB flashdrive is not good enough for snobbish vista...
it tells me it cant use if for a readyboost device....

Its strange... anyway.. here is a zip file with some tools and instructions
on
understanding and testing your USB flashdrive to see if it will
be good enough for snobbish vista

https://microsoft.mrmpslc.com/windowsvistapartner/resources/ReadyBoostKit.zip

have fun... with a vista-free computer!

My Sony micro vault tiny 2 gig is fast enough, but I do not use it yet for
readyboost as when using the readyboost I have problems with a program that
I use (Ashampoo burning studio 6.3).

Hello Nicholas...

I wonder if this really does any good for machines that have say 1 gig of
ram already...
since flashdrives are far slower than ram...
have you seen any difference?

They're slower than ram, but faster than a hard drive when it comes to small
bits. This is also covered in the blog I linked to.

Well I my specs are better than the ones this blog says...
I tested my flashdrive specs using the guide from this location:

I tested on RC2 though not on RTM... perhaps this is why.

I think that on RC they had higher specs for USB drives... but on RTM
they reduced the specs so more usb drives could work...

when I get around testing the same usb drive on rtm I will post my findings

I have 2 gigs of RAM and I did not think it did anything to improve performance.

I have no problems with a 2.0 Cruzer Micro. Works great. But, I did try
out a 4.0 PNY Attaché and it didn't have the needed transfer rates.

But, why would you want to use a device that has a slow read/write speed?
It wouldn't serve the purposes of ReadyBoost!! This isn't a Vista issue, it
is the memory stick manufacturer's slow read/write times that is the issue.

You bought an el-cheapo "high speed" 2GB USB flash drive, and you get what
you pay for.

Next time, buy a name brand (San Disk is among the best)).

I believe that your donut is a description of another hole in your lower
half of your body.
No clues given..

I did not buy it, mr grinch. It was a gift, and it is not a cheapo one.
If you read this thread you will understand... but please try to use all 3
of your brain cells so you can comprehend.

May a reindeer have you for lunch.. happy holidays.

exactly my point... he has the intelligence of a carrot ;-)

There have been tons of posts over the past three months on this subject.
The consensus seems to be that below 1 gig there is some improvement,
increasing as you reduce RAM. Above 2gig, forget it. Enough said. Happy
New Year
