What services to disable?

I just want to set up XP for lean and mean. What are all the services I can
disable and still have a functioning XP box? I don't need access to
Microsoft Update because I'm moving to Linux and XP is to be used for just
gaming. This is what happens when Microsoft pisses off it's customers.

Ya, no way I'm going to Vista, XP is where I break with MS.

If you want mean & lean, check out nLite.... http://www.nliteos.com/

nLite will create an XP install CD from your original configured EXACTLY as
you want it. Some really small footprint XP installs are possible with it.

Start by disabling "Themes" to get rid of the eye-candy!
Gets rid of a huge CPU and graphics hog too :)
Hope this will still be possible in Vista as well :)

Thx for the info and I will check out nLite. I can't see my original post to
this subject. I noticed another post I made yesterday isn't showing either
and I expect Microsoft weenies are blocking me because I made a comment
about one of their MVP's the other day - bastages. But how is it you are
able to see my post then?

Hehe...I'm a dumbass. I'm new to OE as a usenet reader, I usually use Agent
but thought I would try out OE. Thanks.

UVP,

Don't feel bad, I've been using it years and didn't realize it.

Yea, that looks like a good webiste with lots of info. I've already got
most of the services disabled now but left myself with internet access to
get game patches etc. I don't need Vista as I already have a 3D desktop
using Ubuntu 6.06 and XGL.

I'm not alone then. After using OE for usenet it's not very good. I much
prefer Agebts colour coding of posts and the search function in OE is
pretty poor. If you want to search for a certain post you hae to enter the
entire string or else it won't find it. In Agent I can just enter one word
to find a subject. I'm using Pan on Linux right now and I can do it that
way here too. I couldn't find this thread so all I had to do was enter
services into search. OE wants the whole thread title.
