What it doesn't do!!!!!

D

Dubious

If asked to describe MSAS Beta 1, I would answer briefest
by saying what it doesn't do.
In almost a month of daily use it has never auto updated,
never performed a scheduled scan, and more crucially it
has never found any spyware.
All actions applying to the foregoing needed to be
initiated by me.
When established spyware systems like Adaware, Spybot, and
Spyware Doctor all agree that threats exist, MSAS
industriously scans every inch of my computer and comes
up with a nil result.
If I had paid for the service I would have felt I had
been ripped off.

Welcome to beta testing - this is not a ready for prime time app yet as
noted by MS where you downloaded this app. Now many folks would disagree
with you but others have seen the same problem you have. My machines have
always autoupdated and the scans run every night. If you are finding things
in Adaware and Spybot but not MSAS, 9 times out of 10, you are finding
cookies, not spyware.

Congratulations are in order however because your machine seems to be clean
already.

Your update and scan issues may be related to this:
1. It only works reliably from an admin account in this beta
2. You need to logged in on that account for the scan to run
3. You may also have some other app like AdWatch blocking MSAS

It does, and, when reviewed, does this job better than the competition.

There is no industry-wide agreement about what constitutes spyware.
Microsoft Antispyware, in the builds distributed thus far, does not scan for
cookies. The other products you not do scan for cookies, and give them
scary sounding names.

Has real-time protection ever given you an alert?
This is one differentiating feature from some, but not all of the other
products you mention.

Time for final or Beta2 or what it will be............................

Andre Da Costa formulated on torsdag :
Lets ask Mr. Anonymous who said August is the final. ;-)

Mr Anon can be right..................... ;)

It is only minor faults to be corrected. All
important bugs are within "one page" and I am sure
that MS already have a soluttion for these bugs.

You guys don't read? Steve Dodson said beta 2 before RTM AND beta 1 will be
extended beyond July 31st.

Bill Sanderson

Steve's post has me a bit worried, though. He both spoke of a beta2, and of
"something" to extend the timeout period. This sounds like beta2 won't be
ready in time for the expiration.

I'm liable to be gone on vacation by the time beta2 rolls around.

I think beta2 will be pretty polished, and pretty close to final--in that
sense I think mr. Anonymous may be right. And, given what I just said about
timing, maybe he's right about the time period as well. If Steve's talking
about extending the expiration date, which is now July 31, clearly whatever
comes next is coming in....August.

"We have not announced timing of RTW, and we are still planning a beta
2. And
while I am here dispelling rumors, we are also aware of the July 31
timebomb
and are working on an update to extend that date."

- Still planning Beta 2 is not the same as it will be a Beta 2

- Extend that date, probably a small upgrade with update check.

- RTW, directly ?

Steve talks/writes like a politician..................... ;)

Oh Bill, what will we do! I tend to agree with Beta 2 being close to a
finish product.
