Went to a large retail electronics store the other day and they were selling
an older laptop with the following specs which was never used ... it was
special ordered (built to order --> no name brand) for another customer but
those customers never came and picked it up so its brand new:

Celeron 2 GHz
256MB SDRAM (2 additional slots available, 3 in total)
20GB fujitsu hard drive
Toshiba dvd drive
Toshiba floppy drive
56K modem - 10/100 ethernet port
3 usb, 1 parallel, 1 video out, IRDA, PCMCIA slots
15" XGA screen
winxp home
2 year in-store warranty (100% parts and labour on all original hardware and
software)

They were selling it for $899 (CDN)

Good deal?

Suggest you keep an eye on www.techbargains.com (a price comparison / deal
finding website). I don't know what the current exchange rate is, but new
Dell Inspiron 1100's with similar or better specs have been on there for
$649 USD. Admittedly, I haven't been following laptop prices in a couple
months or so, but my gut feeling is that you can do better. BTW--In
laptops, having a brand name is a BIG deal...just try to buy parts,
accessories, batteries, etc. for a no-name. Remember, the stuff doesn't
have to JUST be compatible, it has to FIT in the case, too.
