Windows Mail won't work with Hotmail. You can download another
program (I think the name is Windows Live Mail) from Microsoft
that will.

Windows Mail cannot access http (web-mail) accounts, like Hotmail or the
free US Yahoo accounts. It can only access POP and IMAP accounts, so it can
access AOL and Gmail (provided you turn on the POP function).

You can use the newer Windows Live Mail, which can access your Hotmail
account, in addition to AOL & Gmail.

Gmail... follow the instructions for Outlook Express...

but first you have to enable POP mail on the Gmail webmail page...

AOL...

To enter or change the server info... go to

Hotmail won't work under Windows Mail. You may want to download
and install Windows Live Mail, which will work with Hotmail:

http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

How to connect to AOL:

http://email.about.com/od/windowsmailtips/qt/et_access_aol.htm

How to connect to Gmail:

http://email.about.com/od/windowsmailtips/qt/et_get_gmail.htm

Or if you prefer to connect to Gmail using POP:

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13273

Connecting to Yahoo may take a premium account:

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-35.html

If you still have an unused Outlook license number, you could install
version 2003 or more recent under Vista. Version 2002 will also
work, but with a few problems.

Dear all ( including Bill Gates):

Time ago I bought a new laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows
Mail included.
My Internet access is by means an USB modem ( Vodafone Mobile Connect)
When trying to send mails I received all kind of error messages like:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'xx" , Account:
'xx', Server: yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
and many others like this.

This happened no matter the email address I used: yahoo, hotmail or vodafone
..
But the worst was that my Internet connection dropped any time i pressed the
SEND button.
Of course I called my Internet access provider but they had never heard
about this problem
I asked " expertise" people with no results too.
Spent almost a week changing settings ( incoming and out- server, password
authentications, pop2, smtp, imap. bla bla bla...... and the Win mails still
runnning just when he wanted...
I also disabled my anti virus( NORTON) and the problem still there.
Tired of wasting my time and efforts and almost convinced that Informatic is
not for me I came to find this FORUM and what a surprise!!! a lot of people
were having the same troubles like me.

Then I realize the problem is inside Window mails .Simply it doesn´t work!
Since Bill( Gates) is not going to pay for my time ( ....neither
yours....I decided to let him and his guys to fix his software and in the
meanwhile I trashed it and settled EUDORA instead.

That´s the solution I´ve found.Troubles are in the past now. I can send and
receive mails from my 3 accounts with excellent features, no more problems
with Internet connection. Simply IT WORKS- Pragmatic

Hope my experience might be useful to you guys.

Regards from sunny southern Spain

Carlos

I don't recall you asking for assistance in this forum before.
If you had, we probably could have helped you.

Be aware that Eudora has been abandoned by its developer,
so it is probably quite lacking in security updates.

Is your error message re accessing Hotmail?
Please post the entire error message you are getting.
Right-click on the error message, select Copy
