What is "ASPNET"?

I have a user account called "ASPNET" which I did not create. The description
of the user account is "ASP.NET Machine Account"

Is this part of the Windows XP operating system or is my computer
infected/is it a bot?

Do you have a Google Search feature on your PC? Try it, I used it to get this.
ASP.NET is the latest version of Microsoft's Active Server Pages technology
(ASP).
ASP.NET is a part of the Microsoft .NET framework, and a powerful tool for
creating dynamic and interactive web pages.

Hi,

You computer is not infected and neither is ASP.NET a bot, The ASP.NET
account is created when you install the Microsoft .Net Framework
component. "The user is created to run the asp.net worker process used
in Microsoft's Internet Information Services, which allows ASP.net to
run on your local web server (This is pretty much its only use, it is
not used to run normal .net managed executables). There is not a need
to worry about this user's presence; it was not created in malicious
way." (http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/aspdot.php)

Hope this helps.
