Have an XP sp2 laptop that suddlenly got a black box on screen that said PC
was infected with spyware. The desktop changes to Active Desktop recovery.
When I try to restore desktop to goes back to the ADR. Installed MS
Anti-spywear, it found nothing. I continually get prompted for to send error
report to MS. I have disconnted this latop from network and internet.
Anything I should try next? Searched Active Desktop Recovery on Ms KB found
nothing on it

that's correct, now try what it says on those pages it you have the issue and
see if it works. Didn't fix the issue. After more anti-spywar is run and
going to to system restore and see what effect that has.

It's my latest JOY as an user of M$ OS to be greeted by the same message &
unable to dispatch it via instructions on the error message. I right click
on an open area of the white screen and click on Properties & click on
Background & ironically choose XP stock "Bliss" & click Apply & I get back my
green rolling hills. Why when I click Restore Active Desktop I get a Java
message about scripts have stopped on this page,do I want to continue? No
matter if you choose Yes or No the screen locks up & nothing is solved. M$
has no support, except for these discussion threads which make n00bs feel
right at home & supported by Gates & Co.'s largess!!!

Why do you want Active Desktop ?

You could just turn it off - problem solved!!?
