What is a Recovery Solutions Media?

I have received quite a bit of help today from this board
regarding a possible pirated version of my XP Pro
software. I am going tomorrow to confront my computer guy,
and as I was printing off some stuff from the Piracy
website (as per suggestion of the Piracy hotline rep I
spoke with today), it says that,

"Your PC Manufacturer should provide a means of recovering
your genuine Microsoft Windows operating system." Here is
where the problem lies: They may do so by "Edge to Edge
hologram or another form of media."

Questions:

1. What is Recovery Solutions Media?
2. My computer guy didn't mention this at all and since we
already have issues, is this something else I need to
bring up with him?
3. Should I have received another CD?
4. He did mention that if something happens I can boot
straight from the CD that he provided me, is this the
Recovery Solutions Media?

Thanks, Tiger

Tiger.
No that is not another CD.
There are many options an OEM has to provide a method to restore the
computer.
"Recovery Solutions Media" would be simply the CD used for that
method.

Your seller intended the burned CD you have to meet that requirement
but as has already been established it is not legitimate.
If your CD were legitimate, the seller would have met this
requirement.

I'm still confused, so please bear with me. If it's a
legitimate Microsoft hologram CD, then the recovery
solutions is part of the original CD? Would you just boot
from this CD in the event of a problem? He did mention
that if there was a problem, we could boot from the CD
that he gave us.

You can boot from that CD to reinstall Windows.
You would not necessarily get a "Microsoft hologram CD" and a
"recovery solutions" CD.
But what points to the illegitimacy of the CD is that it is burned on
an HP CD.
The CD whatever the form would be a professional CD.
Only the major OEMs (HP, Compaq, Dell, Gateway etc ) have the
resources to qualify to make their own CD and again they are
professionally made CDs.
The local shops have to buy their OEM CDs from Microsoft and in that
case it WILL have the edge to edge hologram.

That's funny that you mentioned the big computer companies
qualifying to make their own CDs - when I asked the piracy
rep today about CDs, he said that all Microsoft Windows
products must come on Microsoft hologram Cds - but I have
seen Cds from Dell (we have them at school), in which they
have custom made a CD like you mentioned and it's
definitely NOT a Microsoft hologram CD. I just mention
this because it gives my computer guy ammunition or a
means to justify to his customers (as he tried to do today
to me on the phone as he specifically mentioned Dell
imprinting their own CDs) what he is doing. I say, keep
it consistent and maybe allow the big companies to imprint
their logo on the Microsoft CDs. I also think that the
only true way to combat piracy is for Microsoft to imprint
the COAs right into each hologram CD - this would ensure
maximum security as my guy would not be able to do what he
is doing as the burned HP CD that he gave me would not
have the COA in it.

Just a thought, Tiger

Tiger;
If the guy tries to compare himself to Dell again:
1. He obviously knows what he is doing and is attempting to pull the
wool over your eyes...don't let him.
2. If he is going to compare himself to Dell instead of the local
computer shop, he should provide evidence that he has a similar sales
volume as dell...of course he won't be able to.
