What is a mapped file

Hello!

Here is some text where this mapped file exist.
"When you call either the OpenMappedExeConfiguration or
OpenMappedMachineConfiguration method, you're informing the runtime of your
intension to use a mapped file. The constructor requires this, so the only
other minimum requirement is to specify a file location."

So is this mapped file the same as app.config/machine.config but is using a
different name ?

As the documentation explains, mapped configuration files allow you to
manage and use configuration files having other than the default path or
name.

I assume that mapped configuration files is something that isn't used so
frequently.

And you base that assumption on what evidence?

I don't know one way or the other. And in fact, I suppose that absent any
real information, then it might be reasonable to assume that anything that
deviates from the default is less common that the default itself.

But I would be wary about making assumptions, even so.

Hello

What is the advantage to use a mapped configuration file instead of
app.config/machine.config files ?
