What happens when you add a router to an existing network?

Can't access shared files - that's what happened to me. I can access a shared
folder from another employee's computer over our office network when I have
my ethernet cable plugged into my computer (other end plugged into the
wall)...but when I plug it into my new 4 port router (my computer is plugged
into the router as well) and try to access it - it says the folder is not
available.

Does anyone know what I need to do to configure it so I can access the
shared folder through my router?

If your office already has a router then.....your computer might be using
DHCP to obtain an IP address and when you plugged it into the "wall" then the
main router of the office is providing the IP therefore it works, BUT once
you connect another router and your computer is going through that router
then the new router is the one assigning your computer the IP address and
that might be the problem. You can go log into your router and turn off the
DHCP server option then your router will act as a switch or hub and that
should work.
