What FTP client can download files bigger than 4 gigabytes?

Chris

On the Fedora download page it says:

QUOTE---------------------------------------------------

Downloading the ISO Images
The ISO images are located at the following URL:

http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/2/i386/iso/
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/2/x86_64/iso/

To install from a DVD that you plan to burn, download the following ISO
image files:

For x86-compatible (32-bit): FC2-i386-DVD.iso (md5sum:
2d8a20014af287bf8c6b29f2da031f98)
For x86_64 (64-bit AMD64, EM64T):
FC2-x86_64-DVD.iso (md5sum: 5025c41edf87b679f036377013234d9b)

Note: If you are using HTTP or FTP to download, some download clients
cannot handle the DVD image because it is larger than 4 gigabytes.
Please refer to the documentation of your download client for details.

----------------------END
QUOTE---------------------------------------------------

But I haven't been able to find which FTP clients can handle these big
files.
I would be very grateful if anyone could help.
Would something like Star Downloader be better?

I've handled bigger with Filezilla

It's not FTP limitation, but file system. I think FAT32 can't handle files
bigger than 4GB. NTFS can, though.

The problem you have is a limitation of a FAT32 file system
on your hard drive. It does not read or otherwise handle
larger files. You will need to give in and go to an NTFS
type file structure which may require another OS. If you
are using Win XP, you can use the drive convert utility to
make the change. That does not mean you cannot install the
system from a DVD as the system would be working with
individual files which are smaller than 4GB once on the DVD.
In any case, the problem is not your FTP client. This limit
is hit often among those who work with video.

chris, as they've pointed out, what filesystem are you running ?
for a test i'm downloading again the fedora iso with win2000 and filezilla
2.2.4.f.
i just set the limit to 40 kb/s not to overload the dsl. i tried to stop and
resume, and it seems to work.
of course i assume you set the correct option
edit | settings | file transfer settings > if existing = resume
havent you.
ciao, j.

Yes. But I may not have the very latest FileZilla.
I'll check. Version 2.2.6. I tried it three times, taking 21 hours
each time.
It never worked. Bytes just kept coming - way after the correct file
size had been reached. I wonder what can be happening?
Everything else seems to be working fine.
I do get the occasional loss of ADSL synch. - but that shouldn't matter.

I have - and have always had - NTFS - so the problem is absolutely
definitely not that! I'm using XP.
Are you challenging what it says on the Fedora page?
I'd have thought their comments would be pretty authoritative, wouldn't
you?

no prob.
another thing that might mess:
in settings, there's the keep alive option which also send the REST 0
message. the server response is 'restarting at 0'..
anyway sofar it got 3.6 gb, tomorrow i should see what happens (it 1.45am
here)
good night, j.

chris, the iso got here, 4.370.640.896, and nero burned it ok.

Right - and well done!
In that case it looks as if FileZilla is OK.
So what else might be wrong?
Maybe the server?
I was downloading from ftp.mirror.ac.uk.
Where did you get your file from?

the same.
you might want to try renaming filezilla.xml in #filezilla.xml or the like
and remake settings, with care to resume options.
in my laptop the preferences got messed, fz couldnt connect to anything
anymore, and i got the settings from another pc. then everything worked ok.
hth, ciao, j.
