I know what the file format provides, but am curious as to what the actual
letters MDE stand for. Please help, if possible.

Thanks,
Karen

I guess it's either the first or the second one, as I didn't find the
conclusive explanation! ;-)))

Hi, Karen.

MDE stands for Microkernel Development Environment.

The real question is, what do mdC and mdD stand for?
Access uses MDA,MDB, , ,MDE, MDF is SQL Server,
then MDN, MDT, MDW, MDZ are also Access.

Thanks to David, and TC for posting an extension list.
Gunny's was not obviously a joke.

Answer: I don't think we're supposed to know!

MDA
"Add-in file and workgroup file associated with Microsoft Access" (A2.0)
-best thought of as MD-Aahhh?"

MDB
"MDB is the file extension for the Database file associated with Microsoft
Access"
-actually I think of DB as DataBase, goodness knows what M stands for.
-it precedes Access95, otherwise it could have been "Mush DataBase".

MDE
MDE is the file extension for the MDE file associated with Microsoft Access.
-That's as good as any! I think of it as "MD-Executable", which it kinda is,
of sorts, perhaps, maybe, and all other disclaimers.

Apparently(!) the MD is common to a lot of Access file-types. Presumably so
they can be "related". But "Microsoft Database" seems TOO general-purpose.

Then there's OCX, which quite obviously stands for "OctiveX"
(not listed in TC's kind link)(MDA clearly stands for Meddling Damn
Australian)

Chris :)))))))))))))))
