What dial-up ISP's work well with Outlook 2000 and Windows XP?

I have been using Outlook 2000 with Classic CompuServe and Windows 98 for a
few years now and it has worked great. I recently upgraded to Windows XP.
CompuServe Classic does not operate on Windows XP. The new version of
CompuServe, as well as AOL require the whole program to be running in order
for Outlook to check for messages. Is there a good ISP that will allow
Outlook to simply use a dialer to check for messages without bringing up an
entire new program?

AOL allows for IMAP access. If you have Outlook 2000 configured in Internet
Mail Only mode (you have a Tools | Accounts menu option in Outlook) then you
can follow the sames steps described for Outlook Express.

I believe CompuServe offers it as well based on this article

their support folks to verify.

Outside of that, most major ISPs offer POP3/SMTP mail services. (I've had
dealings with Comcast, Surewest, EarthLink, and AT&T)

Lots out there, such as Earthlink, etc....
Compuserve and AOL aren't really ISPs per se - they're 'content providers'.
