What are the recommendations in using PCI / Win Modem

I successfully upgraded my 400mhz IBM computer from W2k
to WinXp. However, my system no longer recognized my
modemd. I have 2 ISA and 2 PCI internal modems, but I am
getting no where. Only one of the PCI modems receives a
message of "new hardware added" when installed. It is
recognized as "serial port device." I have used all the
winxp drivers available for each modem but no luck. I
was told by a tech guy Win Modems should not be
installed. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
