What are the differences?

Hi,

Of the cell phones running Windows Mobile 2005(5) I found Qtek 8300/8310 and 9000/9100. The first two are running Windows Mobile 2005 SmartPhone and the last two Windows Mobile 2005 Pocket PC Phone Edition.

What are the main differences between these two OS editions? Can they both be programmed using CF 2.0?

Yes, all WM 5 devices can be targeted with CF 2.

I suggest you start reading on the differences between a smartphone and a
pocketpc; you'll find more online that what anybody can describe in a ng
post.

Also get VS2005 Standard or above (you'll need it to use CF v2), the WM 5.0
SDK (to get the emulators) and then you can see for yourself what it's like
before purchasing a device.

Cheers

Allright, after having to use Google to find the Windows Mobile SDK since Microsoft just returned Windows Media SDK I have installed ActiveSynch 4.1 as well as WM 5 SDK.

Under the list of templates for Smart Device there is Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC, but not Windows Mobile 5.0 SmartPhone. There is however a Windows CE 5.0, is this for SmartPhones?

I think from this version there is no separate Smartphone version of the OS.

Steve,

There are the following generic versions of Windows Mobile 5.0:

Pocket PC
Pocket PC Phone
Smartphone

As Daniel noted, you'll need both the Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone SDK
*and* the Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK if you want to develop for
PPC and Smartphone (and the PPC SDK will cover PPC Phone as well).

Here's the full SKU matrix for Windows Mobile 5.0:

hth,
Nino
