bernie,
i used to compress my files using mp3 using 256 bitrate and it seemed fine
with me. however, after microsoft release windows media encoder 9, i
realized that wma files can be a better alternative.
there are lots of info out there regarding mp3 vs wma. but it all boils
down to how you are comfortable with either products, what you want to do
with the files, and if you plan to transfer them to a player, would that
player play your file.
further, wma has lossless compression. this means that the file is made
smaller, but no sound quality is lost.
if you are a kind of person who can hear sounds a common man won't, then you
may be happy with wma as wma can preserve most sounds even when not using
lossless compression.
more info can be found by searching for "wma vs mp3" (without the quotes) on
google.
i hope this helps a bit.
