unknowingly one of my spreadsheets suddenly aquired 8 additional columns all
to the left of column A, they are grey, inactive, undeleteable, unedtable,
have no properties, have no help topic associated.
What are they?
How are they removed?
How did they get there?

Are they numbered? If so, select all cells, go to Data>Group and
Outline>Ungroup. Choose by Rows, and keep repeating until all gone.
