What are {}, how do you use them in IF statements

I am using someone elses formula, but they have used the following brackets
i.e. { }. What do they mean?. When I come to amend the formula the brackets
they disappear and the formula stops working. I don't understand why they
are there and what the difference is between the ordinary brackets? Plus
could you please tell me how to use these brackets.

Thank you for your help in advance.

This is an excel question.

Well, Paul, Excel questions should go to the Excel newsgroup. This is
the Microsoft Access newsgroup.

By the way {} denote Array Formulas - look for that term in Excel
Help.

Good luck,

Thank you for your e-mail. Sorry it was my fault that I posted under the
wrong subject. It was my first attempt. I re-posted my question under Excel
programming.

I will wait to see that answer.

Thank you

If it's an Excel question, then you should ask in an Excel newsgroup.

You have posted this message to the wrong newsgroup.
The access in this groups name refers to Microsoft Access, a database
program.

Please repost to the correct newsgroup for whatever Office program
(Excel) you are using. I would suggest you include your Windows and
Office version number in the message.
