Welcome/Shutdown Screens

When I first installed Windows XP SP2, the system Welcome screen didn't show
when I started the system and the new Shutdown screen with the three buttons,
rather than the classic shutdown dialog with the drop down pick list, showed.
While troubleshooting a windows workgroup problem, I was instructed to
enable the Guest account and the system started showing the Welcome screen so
I could select what account I wanted to use. After the workgroup problem was
solved, I disabled the guest account, but the Welcome screen still shows,
even though it only shows my one account. How do I reconfigure the system so
it doesn't show the welcome screen, but continues to use the new shutdown
screen. The knowledgebase contains an artical about how to set up the login
so it doesn't prompt for a login (KB282866), but after trying this, my system
still shows the Welcome screen and I have to press my user account button to
proceed.

PS, how do I get to this message board directly with a URL?
