Hi,

I recently had to re-install Windows XP. Since then the
welcome / logon screen tells me I have 1 unread email. I
have treble checked both my Microsoft Outlook and Hotmail
accounts and none have any unread emails. Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Ofelas.

To have the accurate values over there, download the MSN messenger email
Add-in.

To diable the feature completely, try what Will Denny said.

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP!, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its Repair - Repair Unread mail count will let you put the count right:
Logon - Unread Mail has a check box that allows you to turn the matter
off altogether
