Weird symbols when I reply to messages

Suddenly this morning when I click on an emal to reply, the entire message
has a weird symbol at end of each line.
It won't let me copy it but it is like two vertical lines side by side with
a filled in small circle top left (like a reversed P)
PI with the p reversed & the circle dark.

Any ideas ??????
